FAQ
Who are you?
Please see the About Us
section
How do you make your
money?
At interpreting.co.uk we
are aware that the majority of interpreters and translators are self-employed
and that spending money on advertising is not a favourable option. That's
why at interpreting.co.uk we enable interpreters and translators to advertise
their services for free. For those who want more than a basic entry, we are
happy to design your own page, for a small fee. Banner advertising is another
source of revenue. While e-commerce will be an additional method -- be it
foreign language book sales or translation software -- we intend to derive
most of our revenues from the people, companies and organisations that book
interpreters via the site. This will, of course, have no impact whatsoever
on the amount received by the interpreter concerned.
What does it cost me
to register?
Nothing.
Can anyone register?
We only accept suitably
qualified interpreters and translators. This means registrants must either be a
member of an official interpreting body, such as the APCI, or have at least 2
years experience. Interpreting.co.uk reserves the right to bar any applications
that do not meet our standards.
How can you verify the
quality of your interpreters?
See above.
How can I be sure my
details will be kept confidential?
At interpreting.co.uk it
is out interest to provide the best possible service to all users of the site.
We therefore appreciate the sensitive nature of some of the work carried out by
interpreters. With this in mind, we undertake to NEVER disclose an interpreter
or client's personal details without prior permission. Anyone wishing to book
one of our interpreters has to come through us.
How do I book an
interpreter?
By e-mailing us at sales@interpreting.co.uk, our 24 Hr
hotline is coming soon.
How much do they
charge?
Users wishing to book an
interpreter on the site will have to pay a small finders fee on top of the
interpreter's usual rates. The relevant interpreting body sets these rates.
Can I register if I am
already a member of an interpreting organisation?
Yes. The fact that you
are a member of an official interpreting body does not preclude you from
registering on the site -- just take a look at some of the interpreters who
have already registered.
How did you come up
with the idea?
After seeing similar
services available for other professions, interpreting.co.uk realised that
there was an opportunity for providing a one-stop shop for interpreters and people
wishing to use interpreters.
How do e-mails to my
new email arrive at my inbox?
The interpreting email
address is an email forwarding service; many mail packages allow you to alter
the ‘reply to’ and the display name so it will appear as your new email. Full
instructions are sent on allocation of emails.
Who are your
competitors?
Because
interpreting.co.uk is an INDEPENDENT company, as far as we are aware we have no
commercial competition. There do exist other language websites, mainly for
interpreting agencies, but we believe ours is the first to cater to
interpreters from all organisations, irrespective of their affiliation.
How long has
interpreting.co.uk been around for?
Since spring 1999.
How can I make a
suggestion?

Are you planning to
float?

currently.
